Restraining your child in an appropriately sized and properly installed car seat is crucial to your child and can reduce his risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71 percent.

Nearly 90 percent of parents who use car seats use them incorrectly. EMSA's Backseat Buddies Safety Seat Checkup Project, funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, is designed to help parents use car seats properly. At checkups, trained personnel inspect families' car seats to ensure proper fit and installation. EMSA also gives away dozens of free child safety seats to families in need at each checkup.
